Product Introduction

The HM-CL-4 is a multi-mode imaging system designed for laboratories that need both high-sensitivity chemiluminescence detection and routine gel documentation in a single instrument. It integrates UV transillumination, white-light epi-illumination, and cooled CMOS chemiluminescence imaging, enabling researchers to switch between protein blotting and nucleic acid gel workflows without changing equipment.

At its core is the same 9-megapixel cooled CMOS sensor found in the HM-CL-2, cooled to -25 °C for low-noise long-exposure capture. A 590 nm narrow-band filter and F0.95 high-transmittance lens preserve weak chemiluminescent signals, while a 302 nm UV source provides bright, uniform excitation for ethidium bromide and SYBR-stained gels.

The 15.6-inch touchscreen runs an integrated operating system with preset templates for common applications, reducing training time and minimizing setup errors. For guidance on choosing between the HM-CL-2 and HM-CL-4, see our cost-performance analysis.

Applications

  • Western Blot protein detection and quantification
  • Southern Blot and Northern Blot nucleic acid analysis
  • DNA/RNA agarose gel documentation under UV or white light
  • Protein SDS-PAGE gel imaging
  • Dot blot and slot blot screening
  • Enzyme activity and reporter gene assays

Functional Performance

  1. Triple imaging modes: Chemiluminescence, UV transillumination, and white-light epi-illumination in one enclosure.
  2. Cooled CMOS sensor: 9 MP resolution with -25 °C cooling for low-noise imaging.
  3. 16-bit gray depth: 65,536 gray levels support quantitative chemiluminescence analysis.
  4. High-transmittance optics: F0.95 lens with ≥ 85% transmission across 400–900 nm.
  5. 590 nm narrow-band filter: Optimized for chemiluminescence emission capture.
  6. 302 nm UV source: 6–10 W transilluminator with 3000 h lamp life for nucleic acid gels.
  7. Smart exposure algorithm: Recommends exposure time and flags saturated pixels.
  8. Flexible binning: 1×1, 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8 options.
  9. Touchscreen workflow: 15.6-inch integrated display controls capture and export.
  10. Multiple interfaces: USB 2.0 × 2, USB 3.0 × 2, and Ethernet for data export.
  11. Compact footprint: 460 × 470 × 715 mm benchtop design.
  12. Low power consumption: ≤ 90 W operating power.
