The HM-DK3 is a handheld headspace gas analyzer from HM Instruments that measures all three principal gases found inside sealed packaging — oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen — in a single sampling cycle. Oxygen is detected by an electrochemical sensor with 0.01% resolution and ≤±0.2% accuracy, while carbon dioxide is measured by an infrared absorption sensor whose lifespan exceeds 15 years. Nitrogen content is then calculated as the complementary fraction (N2 = 100% − O2% − CO2%), delivering a complete headspace composition without the need for a separate nitrogen detector.
This triple-gas capability makes the HM-DK3 headspace gas analyzer the most comprehensive model in the DK series. It is the instrument of choice when modified atmosphere packaging uses nitrogen flushing, when pharmaceutical ampoules and blisters require residual oxygen verification, and when food producers need to confirm that the entire gas mixture inside a package meets specification. A built-in pump draws less than 5 ml for O2 and less than 15 ml for CO2 per test, and results are available within 15–20 seconds.
