The operation uses biochemical reaction methods to detect ATP content, and the ATP bacterial fluorescence detector is based on the principle of firefly luminescence, using the "luciferase luciferin system" to quickly detect adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP swabs contain reagents that can lyse cell membranes, which can release intracellular ATP and react with specific enzymes in the reagents to produce light. The luminescence value is then measured using a fluorescence illuminometer, and the number of microorganisms is directly proportional to the luminescence value. Since all living cells contain a constant amount of ATP, the ATP content can clearly indicate the amount of microorganisms and other biological residues in the sample, used to determine hygiene conditions.
