Product Overview

The HM-DN1 from HM Instruments is a semi-automatic Kjeldahl nitrogen analyzer for nitrogen and protein analysis. It automates reagent addition, steam distillation and absorption after sample digestion. The collected distillate is titrated manually, and the titration data are entered into the result calculator.

This configuration suits laboratories that want automated distillation while retaining a manual titration workflow. A 7-inch touchscreen provides instrument controls, result calculation and access to stored records.

Key Features

  • Programmed addition of alkali, boric acid absorption solution, diluent and distilled water, followed by distillation and absorption.
  • 7-inch Android touchscreen with automatic and manual operating modes.
  • Evaporator water-level monitoring, dry-heating protection, cooling-water flow monitoring and condenser temperature monitoring.
  • Result calculator and historical records, with USB export and thermal printing.
  • 16 GB storage and Wi-Fi connectivity for uploading results.
  • Program-controlled cooling-water switching.

Applications

For Kjeldahl nitrogen and protein analysis in food, feed, agricultural products, soil and fertilizer, and for related work in tobacco, animal husbandry, environmental monitoring, pharmaceuticals, research and teaching.

Samples require suitable digestion before distillation. Protein content is calculated from the nitrogen result using the conversion factor appropriate to the sample.

Operation and Support

  1. Digest the sample using the appropriate Kjeldahl preparation procedure, then install the digestion tube and receiving vessel.
  2. Connect the required reagents, cooling water and drain lines. Check the tube seal and close the protective door before running the programmed distillation.
  3. Manually titrate the collected distillate, then enter the titration data into the calculator to obtain the nitrogen or protein result.

Use a well-ventilated laboratory, wear appropriate protection when handling corrosive reagents, and collect waste for proper disposal. Check digestion tubes for cracks before use. Undigested samples or samples containing obvious large particles must not be loaded into the instrument.
