Instrument Introduction

The plant water potential meter is an analytical instrument used to measure the water status of plants and its components, as well as to analyze the components of the sap removed from the xylem vessels. This instrument can be utilized to study the water relations of plants and the relationship between plants and the environment. The plant water potential meter is suitable for research in plant physiology, ecology, agronomy, forestry, and pasture science. It guides the rational water use and drought-resistant breeding of crops, forests, and grasses, and is an important instrument for agricultural and forestry teaching and scientific research. The instrument is easy to operate, fast in detection, and suitable for indoor, outdoor, and field measurements.

Instrument Principle:

In the continuous system of soil-plant-atmosphere, the roots and stems of plants continuously absorb water from the soil, while the leaves continuously evaporate and lose water to the surrounding environment. In this water potential gradient system, there must be a water potential gradient relationship between the roots, stems, and leaves of plants, which causes the tiny water column in the xylem vessels to be affected by the negative pressure of low water potential in the air, forming a pulling force for upward water transport. When plant branches or leaves are cut off, the tightened water column in the vessels breaks, and the water column contracts from the cut end towards the upper end. The cut material is placed in the pressure chamber of the instrument (see the following section for the operating procedure), with one end of the cut protruding outside and sealed. Then pressure is applied to rebalance the tension inside the branches or leaves, pushing the small water column back to just above the cut surface. At this point, the water droplet detection probe automatically detects the exudation of water droplets and automatically locks the measurement data. The pressure value displayed by the instrument is the current water potential value of the plant.

Instrument Functional Features:

1. Equipped with a 4.3-inch color LCD touch screen, it supports switching between Chinese and English menus.

2. Supports both automatic and manual measurement modes, with one-click switching. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted in automatic measurement mode.

3. Support for selecting between MPa and Bar as pressure units.

4. When automatic measurement sampling is successful or data is recorded in manual mode, the buzzer will sound continuously for prompting.

5. It boasts powerful storage capabilities, capable of storing up to 9999 records.

6. Support one-click deletion of all measurement data.

7. Data can be uploaded to a computer via a USB cable, and the software can automatically connect to the device port. It supports saving stored data in EXCEL format.

8. Built-in user manual for quick start and easy operation.

9. It possesses clock functionality and voltage display capability.
